While the situation in Canada is less catastrophic than in other parts of the world, we are all feeling the weight of increasingly worrisome inflation. Prices are rising faster than wages and we are left with no real leverage to act on the situation. In the neoliberal order, the bourgeois do what they want and people suffer without saying a word. Rents, groceries and transport are an increasing burden on us, and it is a safe bet that things will not get any better.
But it doesn't have to. Housing costs are rising to enrich landlords whose income is just a tax on the right to live under a roof. Food prices rise with the profits of Loblaws, and gasoline prices rise with the profits of oil tycoons. Anti-capitalists of all stripes have always had solutions to these problems. The socialization of rental housing, the abolition of wage conditions, and free and collectively managed public transportation are all elements of radical solutions to these problems. Faced with a State that is more than ever subservient to the sole will of the ultra-rich, let us not be satisfied with insufficient demands: rather than negotiating the slowing down of our impoverishment to our disadvantage, let's fight for a world where we would want to live.
The State acts in the interests of business by cutting back on the few services it once provided to the population. When the State feels threatened, it silences us by giving us a few crumbs, but as soon as we turn a blind eye, our social achievements are sacrificed to the altar of the market. While we are the engine of the world, while we are the ones who hold up the edifice of production by our free and salaried work, we are the ones who suffer the full force of the capitalist State's denial of its "welfare" aspect. This logic is the logic par excellence of a capitalism without bridles or safeguards, for which the impoverishment of the lower classes of society is only worrisome when it jeopardizes the profit rates of big business. Because we are tired of being plunged into anxiety, of seeing ourselves sink into despair, of seeing our loved ones die to enrich the rich, let's revolt! Let's put an end to the bourgeois violence that crushes us, suffocates us and hammers us: on May Day, we go out into the street, we stand up, we move forward and we don't give up an inch to the police.
Long live the revolt! Death to the exploiters!
